Natural History | Artificial History

This is the title of the installation of two giant red elephants realised in Piazza della Vittoria in Pavia, to anticipate the opening of the newly renovated Natural History Museum of the University of Pavia.

The two Cracking Art elephants, realised in regenerable plastic, are a direct reference to two elephant specimens that have been kept at the museum since the 50s. The artworks, in dialogue at a distance with the real specimens, underline the increasingly extreme passage from life regulated by natural laws to dynamics imposed by technology and the progressive removal of man from nature.

In the installation, people are invited to become a part of the work by inserting themselves between the two opposing sculptures, placing themselves as an element of connection and participation.
