The frog symbolizes metamorphosis, transformation and connection between water and land: it changes environments and adapts its appearance to new circumstances, transforming from a water-being into an amphibian. Its relationship with water also suggests the idea of regeneration and purification. In Italy, it is the most “onomatopoeic” animal: with sound ranging from from “cra-cra,” representing its stagnation, to “cracking-cracking,” representing its movement.
